I was getting more and more annoyed with buying strawberries, only for them to last two days. And they’re not cheap!
I’d heard that keeping strawberries in a glass jar could help them last longer, so I gave it a go. And it worked. But then I started wondering: could I make them last even longer? Really, I just wanted seven days — enough to get us through to the next weekly shop.
So I started comparing jars, looking into seals and testing strawberries at home. Somewhere along the way, I thought: why not make a really lovely strawberry jar?
In my own home trials, I’ve had strawberries last seven days and beyond. That doesn’t mean every strawberry makes it: I’ve removed the odd one along the way, and where I buy the fruit has made a real difference. It’s my experience, rather than a promise that every batch will last the same amount of time.
With a 13-month-old baby and a 14-year-old son, it’s the everyday difference I love most. I can get the jars out and give my little girl fresh fruit with lunch each day. No fuss — just fruit ready to reach for through the week, until the next shop.
Then came the designs, the matching cards, the gift packaging… I got a little carried away. And here we are: The Strawberry Jar.
Angela FOUNDER, THE STRAWBERRY JARNot just yet. We’re finalising print trials, packaging and the range. This is a first look at what’s coming; orders and payments aren’t open.
Matching instruction cards are planned for the range, introducing the wash-first and quick methods alongside care guidance. Final instructions will be confirmed before launch.
Fridge shelves vary. We’ll share the final jar dimensions before launch so you can check the space in your own fridge.
Dishwasher-safe printing is part of our development brief and is being tested. Confirmed cleaning instructions for the glass, print and seals will be provided with the finished products.
We’d love to hear from farm shops, garden centres and independent gift shops. Use the enquiry link below and tell Angela a little about your shop.
We’re putting the finishing touches to the collection.
